Abu Dhabi has revealed plans to boost the tourism industry in the capital and turn the coastline of Al Maryah Island into a year-round tourist destination.
Al Maryah Waterfront Enhancement Project is planned to have a 30-metre-tall light orb encased in flowing water and encircled by 1,000 AI-powered water jets that reach 75 metres and will be having music by musician named Ramin Djawadi.
The project being delivered by Abu Dhabi’s strategic investment arm, Mubadala Investment Company, will feature the stunning display as its focal point.
The development, the newest project started as part of Abu Dhabi’s aim to become a destination for both domestic and international tourists, was officially opened with a groundbreaking ceremony.
The plan will also include a new food and beverage area, a shaded outdoor cooling system to make summer trips more comfortable and an expansion of the sea boardwalk that will provide access to the water’s edge.
There has been no announcement of an opening date.
Dr. Bakheet Al Katheeri, CEO of UAE Investments at Mubadala has stated that Al Maryah Island Waterfront enhancement project is a strategic investment into the future.
“This project will provide iconic features that improve the standard of living and provide tourists with a varied experience, further solidifying the island’s standing as a top lifestyle destination.”
Since 2007, Mubadala has been in charge of Al Maryah Island’s rise to prominence since 2007. In an effort to solidify its position as a top destination for leisure, shopping and entertainment, the government rebranded the area in 2012 from its previous name, Sowwah Island.
The name Al Maryah is derived from historic village in Liwa Oasis which is home to many purebred Arabian oryx.
Two five-star hotels, a sizable shopping centre, The Abu Dhabi Global Market, Abu Dhabi’s financial hub, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and more than several international retail stores and dining establishments are already located on the expansive island.
The most recent significant project to be announced for Abu Dhabi in recent months is the Al Maryah waterfront project.
It was announced in May that the UAE capital would host the opening of the first Disney theme park in the Middle East.
Disney will oversee the operational and artistic design of Disneyland Abu Dhabi, which Miral will construct on Yas Island.
At the time, Disney CEO Bob Iger declared that the park will be originally from Disney but wlill be distinctly Emirati. As the world renowned theme park will be a crossroad between both worlds!
Yas Waterworld, Ferrari World and Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi are among the other tourist destinations on the island that will be joined by the new park.
Abu Dhabi will also host the amazing Las Vegas entertainment facility Sphere.
UAE version will have many of the original park’s characteristics , such as the shape from which it gets its name and the exterior and interior surfaces made of LED screen technology, which will allow for eye-catching visual displays.
Due to increased investment in global marketing campaigns and the influx of tourists to the emirate’s hotels, restaurants and attractions, Abu Dhabi’s tourism industry added 37,000 jobs last year.
Amidst the ongoings exciting developments Aldar has announced the master plan Fahid Island, the project is estimated to be valued over AED 40 billion.
Over 6,000 opulent homes, ranging from ultra-luxury villas to townhouses and apartments, are planned for the 2.7 million square metre island.
There also will be unveiling of two hotels in the project as mentioned by Jonathan Emery, CEO of Aldar Development project will also include two hotels, one of which will be revealed soon.
